Day 8 - AEGIS Device

One of the first new weapons we saw. The name is definitely not suggestive of its function.

Weapons Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6OvcWiaEdc

Ammo: *Infinite*
Type: Energy
Alt-Fire: n/a, Charge Shield
Cost: cr.20000

Inspired by the movie District 9, the main feature of the AEGIS Device is used by holding the fire button to bring up a shield in front of you that captures and holds enemy fire. Releasing the charge launches the captured mass at the target. Grenades and explosives will explode when they are returned, and do not explode while in the shield. Damage on returned fire is currently unknown. Without charging, tapping the fire button fires slow, weak energy bullets. There is no known alt-fire.

This weapon seems a tad bit overpowered.

I apologize if it's common knowledge, but where was it confirmed that grenades wouldn't explode while held? And I doubt the Aegis Device will be too difficult to deal with. It looks like it'd have trouble attacking anyone at range, and explosions will go through the shield (i.e., a SMAW round hitting the ground in front of the Aegis Device will do just nicely). People with the AR-C Eclipse also won't have a whole lot to worry about from the Aegis Device, as it's capture field is unable to stop rifle butts from caving in the user's cranium. I would also like to see this thing try and block a black hole.

its unknown whether or not the shield it projects protects from explosions or not.

The Aegis's shield covers the front of a player entirely. The sides and back are the wide open areas.

A pro would be able to launch back caught grenades before letting them explode.

SMAW has bern nurfed (most likely)

Don't Aegis mean Shield? That's pretty suggestive.

Aegis does mean 'shield' but more like the perfect or invincible shield.

So the name doesnt really describe what it does, but its a fitting name.

Well.....the sheild is suppose to at somepoint break down if shot at too much, and it over covers your front.....may only concern is.....if the shield goes down...shouldnt all the bullets the other palyer shot at you kill you?...I dont know, that didnt come out perfect.

It doesn't break, it stops catching new shots beyond its mass limit. If you have the specialization upgrade, you'll continue to block new shots but still won't hold more than the limit.
