Yes.

The Wii U's Wii mode isn't better than using your Wii though (not in most respects anyway). For one thing, the Wii U doesn't support surround sound in Wii games unless there's a surround sound option in the game itself (most games don't have this). Also, the Wii U lacks WiiConnect 24 features, so I don't think you can do things like exchange Metroid Prime 3 vouchers. Oh, and don't forget the lack of GameCube controller support.

This is why I never get rid of old consoles.
