If you are new to this game (or fighting games in general) you will come across terms/info you might not know. Here are a few terms you might see and character/game info.

FIGHTING JARGON & GAME INFO

Advanced Guard
This is done by press back (away from your opponent) and two attack buttons. If done correctly this will push your opponent back giving you some space.
Recovery
Then you recover from hitstun in the air or on the ground. This is done by pressing toward or away form your opponent.
Battery
The character on your team that is used to build meter.
Chip Damage
The damage you take when you are blocking. Out of full power you will take 30% damage of the move you are blocking.
Tech Throw
Is when you escape a throw. This is done by pressing forward or away and H at the time your opponent tries to throw you. (within 7 frames)
Cancel/Canceling
Is when you input a move and before that move is done (the move animation) you input another move. Doing this will "cancel" your first move into the next one.
Crossover Assist
Is when you're team members come out and do a move to "assist" you. Each character has 3 different assists (a, y, B) and depending on which one you pick, will decide which hyper they will do in crossover hyper combos. Remember, if you assist gets hit when they are out they will take much much more damage.
Cross-Up
Is when an attack comes from the opposite direction (or having to block two attacks coming from two different directions). They are much more effective when teamed up with an assist.
Damage Scaling
When you are being hit within a combo you will take less and less damage from every successful hit in that combo.
Frames
Is how time is measured in game. 60 frames is equal to one second.
Hitbox
Is the invisible body of your character that is used to interact with other characters. This is used to depict how moves effect you and how your moves effect you opponent. Move animations do now always depict the hitbox.
Infinite
Is a never ending combo that cant be escaped. Most if not all characters in MVC3 can do this but the combos are very complicated to do.
Launcher
The move you do that shoots/pops your opponent in the air. Every character has this.
Mashing/Button Mashing
Pressing a button rapidity or blinding pressing buttons with no point or purpose
Hyper Armor
one or more attacks will be absorbed and not interrupt the moves animation.
