I think it was the pressure to survive... I was a late arrival and everybody else was dead about 20 seconds after I joined...

I also think it is the adrenaline... the same happened to me the first time I faced and the first time I killed Lich King in world of warcraft.

Hit the enemies where they spawn and wipe them out before they can swarm you
