Power combos such as Biotic Combos not triggering at times?

#1mech goukiPosted 1/20/2013 5:36:00 AM
I have had several situations where the power combos didn't actually trigger 100% of the time.

For instance, I took a Krogan Shaman with Shockwave (lifting upgrade) and Warp. The idea was to have either one detonate the other.

After a target is hit by Warp first, if a Shockwave hits the target, it is always a Biotic Explosion. However, if the target is lifted by Shockwave, then hit by a Warp, the Biotic Explosion will NOT always trigger. It triggers at times, sometimes, it is just a normal hit.

Also, when I alternate Overload and Incinerate on an Atlas with shields depleted, I only get Fire Explosions, never Tech Bursts.

Or maybe I did get Tech Bursts. You see, the animation for Tech Burst is hardly distinguishable from sparks caused by Overload. Fire Explosion is more obvious.

But anyway, can someone explain what happens when I hit Warp after a Shockwave with lift? Why does it not always trigger?

It is really annoying when combos do not proc... more so when you do not have 200% CD, because then you have to prime and detonate all over again.

Try playing as the host, because you will have a better connection, it could simply be that lag either on yours or the hosts end could be causing your primes not to trigger...

It's possibly lag. I was playing as the Valkyrie yesterday and having issues with the AF/Warp combo. Sometimes it would hit, sometimes not. I think it was because there was a delay in the AF registering as affecting the target.

Does Lifting Shockwave even prime enemies for bioplosions? I didn't think it did, but I could be wrong.

Reasons why combos may not trigger.

- The combination you're using doesn't combine (e.g. Throw -> pull)
- The order you're using your powers (e.g Throw -> warp)
- Time for priming has elapsed
- The target has died due to base damage being calculated before explosion (Charge for example)
- Someone else has triggered your detonation
- Another power was cast before your detonator has time to impact overriding your detonation
- An ammo powers effect prioritising detonation order (if you're using disruptor rounds then your detonator will trigger a tech burst)
- lag causing a chance for all of the above to affect your combinations

Might have missed one or two...

The solution to most of these is; If you're unsure why your combo didn't detonate just prime again. If you're sure of the cause then you can either cast the priming power or the detonating power again where appropriate.

The reason your shockwaves may not be detonating is because in order for lifting shockwave to take affect the target must only have health left, depending on how you speced and what gear and consumables you're using, warp can be powerful enough to kill health targets before BE is taken into account.

Hope this helped.

It doesn't, and your effect is likely being superceded by something that hits after you did. Warp > Overload > Shockwave is going to trigger the Tech Burst.

I was testing a solo play with Krogan Shaman. I was the host of course. Warp didn't detonate from Shockwave lift all the time.

But yeah, lag kills. A LOT. Every time the lag hits, I find myself walking into walls, or teleporting back and forth every 2 seconds. >_<

Wrong, lifting shockwaves can set a trigger for Biotic Explosions, only if the target is health of course.

I was testing in solo play, no one else.

Shockwave lift has a very short priming duration. I believe it is even shorter than the lift duration. Add to that the fact that warp has travel time, and it's pretty much impossible to consistently pull off the combo. The best chance you have is to have 200% CD, no barrier up slowing down cooldowns, using Shockwave from as far as possible (this is because Shockwave has travel time, and while it travels your cooldown will trigger), then once the enemy lifts, throw a warp at it. If you're in a special sweet spot away from the target, they'll blow up. Maybe.

Too much effort for too little reward. Don't bother. Take recharge speed on Shockwave for that matter.

As for incinerate and overload, as long as your cooldowns are quick enough relative to how far you are from an enemy, you should have no problem detonating tech bursts. OL primes for five seconds, and recharges in half that time at 200%. Due to incinerate's travel time there will be a range limit, but it's fairly lenient at 200%.

I see. That makes sense now. Thanks.
