ME4 Improved Week 1: Class/Race Bonuses!

#1TimeShinigamiPosted 11/22/2013 2:09:42 AM
'ello, and welcome to my Official (officially, now, mind you) Weekly Series! Each week, I'll be bringing up a subject and posting my ideas on how it could be much improved in the next iteration of this fine series. Hopefully, I'll garner quite a bit of thoughtful responses, as well as your ideas on the subject. Hell, call me an idiot. Just make sure you come up with something better first :p I'll try to switch off between MP and SP subjects, but admittedly I have a lot more ideas on the MP than SP, so if you'd like to PM me with some ideas, I'd more than welcome them (and will give you mighty props). This week, I'd like to look at Classes, Races, and the way they'd work within a squad and in general when it comes to unique abilities.

Races
I brought this up in a party chat a few days ago, but let's make the way Powers work different for each species, if it's sensical. This would also provide a way for the Rarity of a Kit Card to actually mean something. For example, Asari are the most advanced/powerful Biotics in the Galaxy. Let's make Asari Adepts and Vanguards UR cards, and improve their biotic abilities with certain powers. Take Singularity, for example. In SP, Liara's simply appears where you target it, while if you toss one out, it has travel time to impact. An Asari's Singularity would be a hits can ability, not summoning a bubble on Phantoms and the like. Let's apply this to a Human and Asari Adept. Perhaps have their Warp DoT be larger, while a human's would inflict more impact damage or something. This would prevent a lot of builds simply mirroring each other. Others have mentioned having a Geth/Quarian perform tasks such as disabling a device be quicker. This is a fine idea. Why not let Krogan move at full speed with the pizza? Grunt picked up and heaved an entire Ravager after all.

Classes
This is an idea I've had for awhile, and expressed many times before: Each Class should have a passive ability that aids in an objective somehow. (Perhaps one that you could balance with in the Oassive tree, similar to picking between Single and Squad abilities in the SP skill trees.) For instance, an Engineer would disable a device quicker or having more per team would decrease hack time a certain amount.. Infiltrators would inflict much more damage to a Target. Soldiers, accustomed to heavy loads, would move quicker with Pizzas. Vanguard abilities would increase with chained kills, or maybe killstreaks, owning to their massive combat abilities. Sentinals could gain the ability to boost either Tech or Biotic users, while Adepts... I dunno, this is where I ran out of ideas, lol. But you get where I'm going with this.

That's pretty much it for me. Next week, I'll be making an SP topic, focused on how Squadmates could be improved story and character wise.

Krogan should have a second chance when they are dead(like in ME1) because they are tanks after all.

Needs more poll. It's not "official" until your weekly (or daily) event has a poll. It's like the staple of this board. Shame on you, Shinagami, for not remembering this. KryptonKnight would be disappoint. :P

I honestly almost through in a quick sop to Jinteisama, as well as our legion of Derps (OberstDerp was the best, lol), but decided not too. Guess I should've, heh.

Races should get bonuses for their own weapons. This would encourage more 'theme-correct' builds and also make more weapons viable overall.

Krogan with a Graal, Turians with a Phaeston, Batarians with the Raider, etc. should all get a performance bonus.

I've got an idea for biotics: same races could inflict more damage with combos (I.e. an asari vanguard's stasis bubble triggered by an asari adept's warp) whereas biotic combos from DIFFERENT races could cause a wider area affect.

Chalk it up to "culture reactions/differences" or something...

Make aggro a stat that differs by race. Big ol' Krogan and their aggressive yelling all match generate higher aggro when they perform their abilities than, say, Drell and their stealthier nature. Make tanking more of a thing.

Some people may say that's not a good mechanic, but frankly i'm sick of being the only non-infiltrator in a group and getting blown up constantly. Tactical Cloak shouldn't be the primary deciding factor for aggro in this game.

I agree with your idea that each class should have a passive power which assists with objectives. I always thought that Infiltrators/Engineers/Sentinels should be able to hack faster/extend the radius of the hack circle/cause escort drones to move faster/etc.

I also miss the radar. This could be brought back and enhanced by certain classes. Maybe the range is severly piss poor unless you equip Gear or have a "tech savy" class in your loadout.

Maybe it increases the range you can see grenades at. Maybe it highlights enemy weakpoints, or warns you when an enemy Mini Boss is preparing their Big-Bang attack.

Also, just for cosmetics/flavor, I would like to see more banter between the races. Like a Krogan insulting a Turian for getting a headshot, or similar races congratulating each other or making condescending remarks against the other races.

Along with your idea that each Race could have a special Utility bonus to powers; When a Krogan uses Warp, it could have much more kinetic force, or when an Asari uses warp, it could disable them for a short duration, etc.

The previous suggestion that Krogans could get up once makes sense with their redundant organ system, but I guess that is also why they rationalize them having so much health.
