http://canadianonlinegamers.com/feature/the-5-biggest-keys-to-the-success-of-mass-effect-4/

I've posted pretty much this exact list in several topics of this nature. I agree with everything here, for all of the reasons they've stated. Biggest sticklers for me are probably the almighty A button and the main quest line I'd like to see something akin to Firefly/Serenity).

What about you? Disagree with any of them? Think there are better points to be made/requested?

I'd add a 6th one: don't give a crap and enjoy the game.

We should take all the Mass Effect 4 topics and push them somewhere else. Namely into one big Mass Effect 4 thread ;P

not on topic btw.
I read the Canadian article. The writer is clearly an rpg fan.
The shooter fans would beg to differ. They loved ME3 and want more of the same.
We'll see what direction Hudson takes the series, back to being an rpg or continue as a shooter.shrugs.

I love both shooters and rpgs and I think people forget that Mass Effect 1 was still a shooter it was just extremely poorly executed. You know what else was? The way they had their skills set up and the excessive and boring inventory system. With that said they should look at going back to the sidequest style of that game and going back to their roots with exploration and great storytelling(which they claim they are). And bring an inventory system back just make it better.

Whether you want more shooting or more RPG structure, I think everyone being honest with themselves can agree on the benefits of having a second button for actions. Specifically thinking about the MP component, sprint needs to be a distinct button.

E.g. if a Scion has blasted a teammate next to you with its phase cannon, you don't want the action button to make you teabag your teammate's corpse just in time for the second shot to drop you as well.

There's a special dilemma for Bioware with Mass Effect, since it's the shooting mechanics that draws the big sales numbers. They have to decide how far they'll deviate from their RPG roots to appeal to the masses. So when people complained about driving the Mako, or having to walk around the Citadel, Bioware decides to largely scrap the planetary exploration aspect and make the Citadel a collection of a dozen rooms or so. People complain about the thermal venting system, so Bioware switches to an ammo based system to speed things up.

In short, Mass Effect 4 will almost assuredly continue the trend towards being more like a shooter than an RPG. Shooters tend to be fast paced games, and thus there's a tendency to see things like exploration or talking to NPCs as 'slow' and 'boring'.
