Is my Shepard 'racist', if....

.... he feels awkward or uncomfortable having sex with an alien?

My canon Shepard had a fling with Ashley, and then loved Miranda from ME2 onwards. Now that I have all the DLCs of ME3, I decided to replay the series. I decided to give Liara romance a try.

But I can't help feeling that my Shepard, in spite of having the utmost respect and gratitude for Liara and considering her really beautiful, would feel very uncomfortable in getting physically close with an asari or a quarian. It's not prejudice, but an awkward feeling, especially since we aren't provided any details about the physiology of the alien races.

Is it a weird feeling? And is it racism?

Depends on how he would act on those feelings.
And Asaris are supposedly very similar to humans.

Racism and not finding certain people sexually attractive are two different things.

If you don't like Shepard being with an alien, you're racist. If you don't like Shepard being with someone of the same sex, you're homophobic. Blah blah.

And the list of accusations will go on and on.

I say screw it all. (Not literally.) I say just go with your gut feeling. Go with what you feel right. The hell with what other people think. It's YOUR Shepard, not theirs.

Strictly speaking, it'd be xenophobia, not racism, but really, it isn't either.

Isn't "dat body" normally wrapped in a tin can?

It's fine not to be interested in romancing types of characters, as long as you aren't intolerant of people who do or think that their ability to do so should be taken away because it makes you uncomfortable (I'm referring to all the outrage about gay relationships being an option in ME3 or The Old Republic *sigh* That was depressing).

DF: So why can a Marauder roll but a multiplayer Turian can't?
Delta1-9: You are fighting female turian husks. You have reach but they have flexibility.

I think that there's a difference between thinking "that their ability to do so should be taken away", and thinking that some stuff should not be included in the first place. Not the same things.

Is the difference that significant? Both kinda boil down to "if an option makes me uncomfortable it shouldn't exist, even if others want it and it isn't forced on me".

That actually makes a lot of sense.
