so what's with these "it won't pop out people"?

morphinapg had it exactly, I'm hoping most developers know that. Because you need to have the right perspective with the 3D, which part of the game and environment should be popping out, or "floating" if you will, and which part should be far into the distance. And seeing as the 3DS will be personal, unlike most 3D movies, they can expound on this easily, since they 3D will be targeting just one person not an audience.

For example take morphinapg's example about your HUD, in a FPS, it would be nice to have the HUD literally popping out in front of you as if you were wearing the suit or display yourself. But that doesn't mean you want the rest of the environment or a baddy that's 50 feet in the game popping out also, with the added the depth you'll be able to see that the bad guys are far in the distance, and even farther is the environment.

That's head tracking, it's an illusion that gives a sense of depth, but it's not 3D. 3D is 3D because your brain receives two images, and reconstructs them into a single 3D image of the world around you.

It looks better in general, I think, inside the screen. It has the effect as if you could stick your hand through the screen and feel around inside. If you try one of those stereoscopic images online, you'll see what I mean.

Sometimes, an object appears to come out of the screen a bit. But I'm guessing they won't do much of that, since it could be awkward.

I'm showing that it can pop out and in.
That can give people an idea of what it will probably be like.

and yes, it's close to the same. it doesn't have to track the players head if it can track the tilt of the 3DS. *sigh*

Not necessarily, I can move my viewing angle without having to change the 3DS' position or orientation very easily, and then the illusion would be lost. Head tracking would not be fooled by that.
