I think he meant before the next generation is out. But well... that's untrue.

The Game Boy had a 12 or so year life cycle. Sure, it had several revisions and at some point they added colour, but it wasn't the next generation, and all the colour version games still worked on the original Game Boy. The Game Boy released in 1989, and the Game Boy Advance didn't release till 2001. Game Boy also still reigned supreme until then, crushing all competitors.

In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow.

Gameboy Color games lacked the notch that allowed the game to be locked into the original gameboy when the power was turned on

Really? I thought they just were without colour.

Nope, some games needed the GBC's extra Ram and the cart purposely made it so it couldn't lock into a old original GB (Game Boy Pockets would give you an error message) by removing the notch.

there were types of GB carts
grey carts were the original Gameboy games, whenn put in a Gameboy Color or Advance they had a color pallete applied to them

Black carts could be played in the original gameboy but had full color when put in a Gameboy Color

Then there's the gameboy color carts which I believe were all transparent, and they lacked the notch in the upper right corner that allowed them to be played in the original gameboy, and obviously had full color.
