Think About The Release Date

#1Smokeybear18Posted 6/21/2010 9:17:47 AM
Many of us hope the 3DS is released before 2011, preferably in October/November/December of 2010; we have been given the staple of "before March 2011."

I think it makes the most sense logically and economically for Nintendo to release the 3DS in fall/winter of 2010. Why? That is the period where it would make the most bang for a debut. January and February would be idiotic months to release it, mainly because the holidays are over. More people would buy it BEFORE Christmas, than afterward, especially in the US.

So, I think, logically, the 3DS will be arriving sometime this fall/winter.

I'll take it a step further and bet that it is going to come before November 26th, because they will want to take advantage of the Black Friday sales. The month of July is out quite thoroughly because of the fact that a definite date would have been announced if that were the case so they could capitalize on sales at that time. They are likely to use a month that will capitalize on strong sales, which really eliminates August too, making likelihood of October to November (when the rush is more thoroughly going to pick up so they can have a strong launch month in their financial reports.
So we are left with
October 1st-31st and November 1st-25th.
I'd eliminate November 25th due to Thanksgiving and we have
October 1st-31st and November 1st-24th.
Using past console release dates as a guide to further narrow that down,
Nintendo Wii launched on November 19th, 2006 which was a Sunday.
Nintendo Gamecube launched on November 18th, 2001 which was a Sunday.
Nintendo DS launched on November 21st, 2004 which was a Sunday.
Eliminating it down to Sundays (and Wednesdays, which are a popular disc-based game release day) we come up with these dates:
October 3,6,10,13,17,20,24,27,31
November 3,7,10,14,17,21,24

From there, we will apply the fact that systems tend to be launched in mid to late November to narrow the dates further.
November 14, 17, 21, 24
November 14th and 21st are Sundays, with November 17th and 24th being Wednesdays. Not only is November 21st on the week of Black Friday (huge sales boom!), but it is the 6th anniversary of the DS, so that is what I'd bet on the release date being.

Yeah... I'm bored.

I was thinking November 23rd and bundled with the Ocarina of Time remake to honor it's 12th anniversary.

and the price goes to... cha_fan1!

I also remembered the November release dates but I didn't break it down like you did. If we see this post deleted we can be certain it's true. Also, Nintendo will probably abduct you untill November 21st so you stop leaking information on the matter.

I actually didn't consider Tuesdays (November 23rd) because of their prevalence as a movie and music release day, which pits it against another entertainment format on release day. Sunday is the beginning of Ad week for retail chains, and releases are typically on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. (Sundays for major items and new ad prices, Tuesdays for Movies and Music, and Wednesdays for games)
That would be an interesting date choice too, though!
