It doesn't matter when Nintendo releases it....it will sell out immediately and there will be vast shortages.
The only thing that will determine the release date at this point is software. As in, what games are ready for launch, and what games will suffer in terms of sales from its release (ie people won't be as interested in the new Kirby for Wii when they have a 3DS and several 3DS games to buy).
Heck, most people haven't even seen what the 3DS games actually look like and the demand is frothing. Wait until Wal-Mart and Gamestop get demo units to try out.
He pretty much has it here. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo already has the 3DS ready to go for production, it certainly seemed like it from E3. The big question is, will there be support on launch day? Nintendo made it very clear that they are all about the games when the 3DS releases, so the schedule for releasing the system might just be the schedule for when the games are completed.
