Do you think the 3DS can pass the PS2 in sales?

Counting all revisions of course.

I say, it's too early to tell, and we won't know if it will be as popular as the DS. (Which I kind of think)

I think the only system that will ever pass PS2 in sales will be the one that prevents and cures cancer.

the problem is, is that the PS2 is still selling units, otherwise the DS would have already surpassed it.

No one can say for certain, but at present I doubt it. PS2 has sold at least 143+ million units. DS has thus far sold 130 million. That's close, and I think it's fair to say that the DS is Nintendo's most popular handheld ever. (Even the venerable GameBoy combined with GameBoy Color never sold that many. It was in the over a hundred million units, but the last figure I read was somewhere around 120 million.)

3DS will have a higher entry price, and games may cost more as well. That alone may blunt sales, let alone any other factors. That said, I still expect it to end up selling 100+ million units eventually. Nintendo handhelds always, always sell incredibly well.

In fact, what PS2 and the Gameboy brand have in common is that they have generally continued to sell well long after their "generation" was eclipsed. I expect that the same will occur with 3DS, and given backward compatibility with DS, I actually expect the existing DS to continue selling well into the future (though it will naturally decline as 3DS ascends.)

The problem is that people combine the DSi and DS sales. That's just like combining Game Boy Color and Game boy sale.s

^Which I also did above, since the TC said "counting all revisions of course."

People combine the PS2 and PS2 Slim sales too. They're still a PS2, and the DSi is still a DS.

DSi can play different games than a DS. The ps2 slim plays all of the same games. Just like the GBC had GBC games that couldn't be played on the GB.
