idk what i was thinking when i bought it but since the 3ds is obviously going to have some sort of online (probably better) do you know or think i can use the microphone?

Do you mean like a wired headset? It won't work with the 3DS. Look at the headphone jack on it, it's just the headphone port, there is no little socket next to it that the microphone connector for a headset would go.

Just keep your current DS.

DS games won't look so hot on the 3DS' screens anyway (The graphics will either be stretched and distorted, or only fill a small section of the screens, due to resolution differences), so yeah, I advise anyone to keep their DS/Lite/i/XL if possible.

the screen on the 3DS is smaller than the screen for DSi XL, the resolution of the screen is 256x196, the resolution for the 3DS in 2D mode is 400x240, which means it'll look about the same as the DSi XL.

I think it's more of a thing based on EB's/Gamestop's past record for this kind of thing: trade in your old console and x amount of games, and get a new console for cheaper! sort of thing.

It's still to early to say. Nintendo themselves said that the hardware shown isn't the final design. We may still end up seeing them changes various things about the 3DS.
