Aiming Down Sights in FPS games.

ADSing... surely you will have to close one eye to properly ADS on a gun. Will that make it more immersive or will it just annoy you?

Personally, I think I like the idea of having to close one eye to look down the barrel of the gun for precision shots.

That really makes no sense in an FPS, though, since you usually have crosshairs...

Except when you don't and need to ADS for precision shooting. Can't shoot from the hip all the time, can you?

Look, it's only logical that in a FPS game that has ADS, that you will have a slightly different camera angle for each eye. Either the individual game places one eye over the barrel of the gun and the other off-center, or it places both eyes off-center so the gun is "in-between". With one, you can close one eye and aim down the barrel, and with the other you don't.

I'm not talking about some gameplay idea, I'm talking about something that is going to happen in a FPS with ADS regardless of whether or not you want it to.

The third option is that the game centers the gun and turns-off 3D during ADS.

Or the game turns off one of the screens during ADS. Then it will really be like closing one eye.

Right, that's what I said.

Well, you said it turns off 3D, which would mean both eyes see the same thing. I'm suggesting they turn off one screen, so that while one eye sees over the barrel, the other eye sees a blank screen. Could be interesting to see how clever developers toy with this sort of thing.

Ah, I see.

What system would you prefer?

Personally, I'd like to close one eye instead of 3D being automatically turned off.

Closing one eye might look weird in public. Really, best option is an options menu. I'd set it to turn off one screen, though I'd play around and see what works best overall.
