3D 'typical' Gimmicks and Nintendo

#1omniryuPosted 7/11/2010 8:58:06 AM
I remember an article on Ign, not to long ago, staing there is more to the 3DS than 3D. Couple 3DS news later they were a bit right, but let's go back to 3D. Do we really think Nintendo is just going to do the typical 'explosion/bullet coming at you in 3D'? Wii sports golf was demstrated depth instead of pop-out in a 3DS demo (or was it wii?) That's one example there. I would come up with some more, but I'm bad at examples. Anyway, Do you think Nintendo go with the typical route we've seen with 3D in the past or be vastily diferent?

I remember reading a quote (can't recall who said it though), where it was stated they would be building games around the 3D effect rather than applying 3D to their projects as a tacked on afterthought. This was said in light of the 3D effect being disableable, and people wondering if 3D would be much of an integral feature after all if you can just turn it off.
I'm hoping they follow this design philosophy, because just having moments like you mention is kind of a waste of potential.

Majority of games we've seen are remakes it going to be interesting to see how they build 3D around it

^ Actually, only OoT and SF64 are remakes.
I'm pretty sure all the rest are new games.

It will indeed be interesting. To me, if they consider how the 3D effect will enhance things EVERY step of the level and gameplay design process, that will be enough to make it not gimmicky like explosions coming off the screen and that's all the 3D thought they really put into it.

And resident evil.

Games I see using it to the full potential are the ones like that DSiware game,' something something lineup'. Where you use the 3D technology to discover hidden letter and numbers.
Anyway, I believe NIntendo and Konami will use 3D the most creatively. The issue is, what about the rest?

Majority? 2 games are confirmed remakes, nothing else is a remake.

3DS is going to be the best portable ever and hopefully one of the best consoles ever.

^Yes, that's what I said :O
Resident Evil is not a remake btw (or at least it hasn't been confirmed yet).

Well, it depends on the game (developers). They can choose to make the 3D come out the screen or only make it go into the screen. Like with Crysis 2, they're making it 3D, but they decided to make the 3D look as if you can go into the screen and all that, rather than having things come out of the screen.
Crysis 2! :D

3D and remakes of "3D" games are interesting. It's like as if you had the opportunity to add colors to game boy games, if you know what i mean. It's more like adding something that wasn't there because it wasn't possible rather than just adding something because it is a gimmick.
