First, there have been cellphones with this type of display in japan for a while. And Sharp themselves have been selling 3D computer monitors using this tech since 2004.
Second, it's not about claiming anything, it's about paying people money that they are entitled to by law as patent holder. Sometimes tech is stolen. These laws are there to make sure inventors don't get ripped off.
