What is the difference in the chargers?

whats the difference between plugging the charger directly into the system or plugging it into the base and putting system on the base?

There is no difference. The cradle is just a more convenient way to charge it since you can just slide it on the charger.

Using the cradle also reduces the risk of damaging the charger port on the 3DS due to frequent use.

Oh thats the case then I'd rather just plug it into the system, I thought the base charged faster or something but when I use the base the system keeps sliding out

This. The 3DS fits in the cradle perfectly, with very little wiggle room. It should not slide out unless you nailed that sucker to the wall.

The cradle 'cradles' the 3DS so it doesn't move.
