Is there any shape of pattern the 3DS will mistake as the "?" AR Card?

Did you know you can bring up an AR card onto your computer monitor and play AR games on there?

do a test with your PC (or coloured cardboard)


I did some short tests when I first got my 3DS.


Basically do this:

(For PC - Paint)

-Black Rectangle
-Coloured Shape


(Easiest is pink circle for Kirby)

Can't remember correctly, but I don't think it has to be a shape. ie: a green inner rectangle should give link

There was a great article about this exploit on Gawker (probably Kotaku).
It turns out you only need the basic colors for the camera to recognize any of the AR cards. I don't think even think shape matters.
