Why do I have to press the power button 3 times to turn it on?

What's the difference between the original and the localized version?
Original usually means Japanese and localized usually means North American.

you don't, there's a slight delay when you push the power button. just push it and wait until the 3DS boots.

My on button is a little unresponsive too, sometimes it takes a couple of presses, sometimes it powers up on the first press

Because you don't know how to push a power button.

Power buttons have been confirmed by a large population of 3DS owners to be unresponsive at times, myself included. I make sure to press the button correctly, even holding it down for a few seconds, and no response. I'll try again, and it works. It does this sometimes, and sometimes it works first press.

Never ever heard of this. Yours is faulty, send it back to nintendo.

Mine is the same way, it's not a start-up delay. Sometimes the button plain doesn't work.
