3DS' online system is worse than you think

Some of you may remember the "glitch" where playing Ocarina of Time 3D even with wireless activated doesn't allow your friends to see that you're online and thus that you're playing Ocarina. Well it wasn't a glitch, it was intentional. So plenty more games may well have this "feature".

It certainly isn't the end of the world, especially considering OoT 3D is single player, but it makes the 3DS' online feel a lot less unified. I hope this doesn't affect the chances of a messaging system being added to the 3DS. Even if they do add a messaging system though, you'll have to quit out of games like OoT 3D to send and receive them!

Thoughts?

They might possibly be able to fix it with a patch or something? Though how you would get those patches to the people would be a big question to begin with, in addition to the fact that I don't think Nintendo has ever issued a patch to anything - ever - in their lives. They'd probably mail you a fabric Mario to put on your jacket or something and go, "There you go! Your Zelda's all patched up! (Hey, was that what they were talking about?)"

doesn't bother me at all especially with a game like OoT where I turn wifi off anyways to preserve battery life. If a game doesn't feature online 95% of the time my wifi is off while I'm playing.

It's nice to have the option though. That's what the wireless switch is for. The way they've added this "feature" though, there'll be a lot of people playing the game with wireless on thinking their friends can see them online, when infact they can't, so they're just using extra battery power for nothing.

I wonder if this is some kind of hardware limitation, perhaps because of the amount of RAM or something.

You're shocked that the company who thought online gaming is just a fad doesn't focus on good online play?

It matters some because some people might play a single player game that doesn't have online to kill time while waiting for friends to come online. Just kind of annoying that it's bad enough nintendo doesn't embrace online hardly at all, but it's like they actively fight against it.

Once again Nintendo proves to me that the Friends List is completely useless. I don't even think games can be patched, and I have yet to see proof that they can be. Ridge Racer was a problem with the 3DS itself and we know system updates can be performed.
