Thinking of getting a 3ds, but...

I've been thinking. What does the 3d aspect bring to the table in terms of gameplay mechanics? I mean sure it looks great, but I already own a ds and I don't want to purchase something that is identical to the ds except with better graphics and 3d.

So how does 3d come into play?

3d and graphics are just for presentation, they dont help/hinder the gameplay so far

That covers quite a bit of information about the system. As I'm too tired to discuss further without making notably mistakes, I'll hope that does well enough tonight.

So you've never upgraded any console and still game on an NES and Gameboy, right? Cause that's the logic you're presenting here.

Starwars4J, pointing out flaws in people's logic does not tend to help convince them that it's worth upgrading. Before I do something too stupid I need to get to sleep, night all.

Honestly, you probably shouldn't. Nothing significant is going to come out on the system for months, unless Nintendo surprises us with something on the eShop - and every week, that seems less and less likely.

Legitimate new gameplay mechanic: Puzzle/strategy elements based on identifying which object is closer/further away from you based on popin/out alone!

Seriously though.. it's a visual upgrade.. a form out user ouput.. meant to help immerse you into the setting of the game. Normally if you want to talk gameplay it would require a new method of user input (ex. touchscreen, accelerometers, facial recognition...etc)

These are the new control options:

Gyroscope,
Augmented reality using the 3D cameras,
If you have a DS (not DSi) camera, camera for gameplay
face recognition (as seen in Nintendogs & Cats)
Slide pad for analog control

Also has a lot of new communication features, like street & spotpass. Also includes (so far unused) IR.

So it's not just graphics that are updated...
