Probably a stupid question, but I've been wondering for a while what purpose it serves, if any. Does it some sort of advantage over just plugging in the 3DS directly?

The easy of just putting it in the charge cradle instead of plugging it into the plug?

It's supposed to encourage nightly charging. If it had a cord, people might only charge it when it's low on battery instead since it's sometimes a bit of a hassle to look for the cord on the floor. With the charging cradle, the charger has a dedicated socket on the wall, and charging it is no different than putting it down before going to bed.

It is indeed quite useful to me.

With its short charge, it means more times where I'm playing it while it's plugged in whereas I wouldn't play it while it's in the cradle.
I hate affirmation threads and I'm not interested in knowing who agrees with me.

It's convenient. It has a permanent place on my desk and it doesn't move. The cable itself would just be hanging around loose otherwise.
