Are low 3DS sales the real reason why Capcom cancelled Megaman Legends 3?

Capcom is known to cancel projects early on in console's life cycles when they have a rough start. Remember Monster Hunter 3 for PS3 being cancelled in 2007?

I can't shake the feeling that Capcom analyzed the sales rate that the 3DS is selling at and deemed it too poorly to go through with Megaman Legends 3.

They probably never intended to release the game in the first place.

If it were that couldn't they have just moved the project to another console? I certainly don't think they were too far into development XD

I think the real reason is probably along the lines of:

1. Capcom realized the game was gonna be bad
2. The game was going to be too much work.
3. The fanbase of the Mega Man Legends series itself wasn't big enough to be profitable.

I don't think it's the 3rd point, because then why start the project in the first place? It must have been something they recently discovered while they were working on it...

No.

It was either

A. Keiji Inafune's departure from the company (whether they admit it or not)
B. The "higher-ups" don't consider the Megaman franchise profitable anymore
C. Capcom has more milking in store for Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Lazy ports of older titles.

I hate to say it, but this is the vibe I'm getting from the situation.
Started getting that vibe when they decided to base the game's release on the protocol sales.

Got stronger when they delayed Protocol.

And is now buzzing so loud I can't concentrate.

Resident Evil was announced for PSP in 2009. It's now 2011 and Capcom still hasn't said if it's canceled or still being made. Gamespot recently listed it as canceled though, Capcom is just being an a hole

It's probably for PSVita now, PSP has been on low key in NA and EU for a while now

People need to redefine thier usage of the phrase "low sales".

The Virtual Boy sold 770,000 total in it's lifetime.

The 3DS has "shipped" 3.6mil in it's first 4 months.

It's sales aren't low.

Monster Hunter Tri for the PS3 wasn't canceled because of low sales, it was because the PS3 was ridiculously difficult and expensive to develop for.
