How is Mario not hardcore!?!

Im at a loss, I see a ridiculous topic addressing whos hardcore and whos casual and somehow mario, kirby, and donkey king get lobbed in as casual!?!?!

Really, people have no idea what a casual game is. heres the definition of casual

casual
1.Relaxed and unconcerned
- she regarded his affairs with a casual indulgence
- he tried to make his voice sound casual
2.Made or done without much thought or premeditation
- a casual remark
3.Done or acting in a desultory way
- to the casual observer, rugby looks something like soccer
4.Done or acting without sufficient care or thoroughness
- the casual way in which victims were treated
5.Not regular or permanent
- the tent is ideal for casual outdoor use
- casual jobs
6.(of a worker) Employed on a temporary or irregular basis
- casual staff
7.(of a sexual relationship or encounter) Occurring between people who are not regular or established sexual partners
8.Happening by chance; accidental
- he pretended it was a casual meeting
9.Without formality of style, manner, or procedure, in particular
10.(of clothes or a style of dress) Suitable for everyday wear rather than formal occasions
11.(of a social event) Not characterized by particular social conventions
12.(of a place or environment) Relaxed and friendly

hard-core also hardĚcore (hńrdk˘r, -kr)
adj.
1. Intensely loyal; die-hard: a hard-core secessionist; a hard-core golfer.
2. Stubbornly resistant to improvement or change: hard-core poverty.
3. Extremely graphic or explicit: hard-core pornography.

Adj. 1. hard-core - stubbornly resistant to change or improvement; "hard-core addicts"
inflexible - incapable of change; "a man of inflexible purpose"
2. hard-core - intensely loyal; "his hard-core supporters"
hardcore
loyal - steadfast in allegiance or duty; "loyal subjects"; "loyal friends stood by him"
3. hard-core - extremely explicit; "hard-core pornography"
hardcore
explicit, expressed - precisely and clearly expressed or readily observable; leaving nothing to implication; "explicit instructions"; "she made her wishes explicit"; "explicit sexual scenes"

Now how does mario/kirby/donkey kong fit casual in comparison of hardcore
3.Done or acting in a desultory way
- to the casual observer, rugby looks something like soccer???
2. hard-core - intensely loyal; "his hard-core supporters"
hardcore
loyal - steadfast in allegiance or duty; "loyal subjects"; "loyal friends stood by him" ???

All Im trying to put here is that casual play comes as you play not very often, games requiring little skill, No real need to remember a level with diligence to get all secrets/items and beat it truly.

Hardcore requires skill, diligence in style of play, aquiring secrets/items, getting best time for completion, maxing out characters, mastering the game (which alot of casual labled games can be played on a hardcore level)

So with the last line I added that perhaps platformers could be labeled casual but I honestly dont see it. Mario games(True mario games, not soccer, baseball,w/e)have always appealed to "hardcore" gamers that I know as such does RPG's and FPS, for some reason , not so much the racing games except mariokart and diddy kong racing.

Wait - Kirby is considered casual? It's not just American Kirby that's hardcore.

Don't bother. Only the trolls call all Nintendo games casual.

I can't wait for Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart 3D, Paper Mario 3D, Luigi's Mansion 2,
Kid Icarus: Uprising, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby Wii, and Skyward Sword!

Mario is casual because he doesn't wield guns and isn't fighting in a war of some kind, apparently.

Lack of gameplay options and easy difficulty. Mario games are simply jumping and gaining power ups. The games difficulty is based solely on level design. If you fail a level once, you will automatically do better on the second try not because you're getting better, but because you're already familiar with the obstacles in the level.

Mario games also present all of the gameplay at the beginning. The only thing that changes is the level and enemies throughout the game.

I remember the old Mario games where the difficulty was based on poor controls and design choices. The games made you do huge leaps while running but the slow control response time resulted in unnecessary difficulty which the games were praised for.

So you're actually learning the obstacles. And no, you don't automatically do better. That's a lie in and of itself.

Either way, you could say the same thing about a lot of games. And if that makes Mario casual, it makes Madden "hardcore." So, no.

Maybe in a future Mario game, Nintendo can make it hardcore by arming Mario with an M4 and RPG's. That way he can gun down and blast the baddies into oblivion, all the while leaving the Mushroom Kingdom in smoldering ruin.

That exact logic can be applied to every game and genre ever made, that's why it's terrible.

As far as a lot of people are concerned, hardcore means FPS games only.
