So in Japan the drop is 25,000 yen to 15,000; while in the US it's $250 to $170?

This is confusing to me on a few levels. The current exchange rate is 77.98 yen to the dollar. Using that we come up with this:

Japan Current Price: $321
Japan New Price: $192

That's a $129 (40%) price reduction! The US only gets an $80 (32%) price reduction? What gives?

Because compared to Europe and Japan, we're lucky we were getting the 3DS for as cheap as we were. It cost more than $250 elsewhere. If your conversions are correct, it appears they're now trying to even it up a little.

Australia's dollar is worth more than the US's (last I checked) and we had to pay $100 more at launch. With the price cut we will be paying $250, so you still get it cheaper than we do...

I wouldn't base calculations on the USD exchange rate.

Even comparing to other currencies, the yen is really strong right now, strong enough that the government is trying to reverse this trend because their economy depends so much on exports.

However, it also means that your yen can buy you a lot more. If I were to go to the US after this hits, I could buy two 3DS' for only 23,339 yen; which is less than the current going price for ONE 3DS here in Japan. That's a bit crazy to me. Especially considering what a small portion of my paycheck that is.

What gives? How about very expensive 3DS titles.

There's more competition in Japan. PSP is actually selling well over there and people care about it.

Also demand in japan is super low I still see kids with DSI's and only adults with 3DS.

Thats why nintendo is giving games because they know this time the only people with there product is gamers. Its funny just watch how the push of the 3D just drops.

That's weird. I seem to see people with 3DS' all over the place. Especially kids. At my school's last summer festival I saw at least three in the hands of kids under the age of seven and not a single DSi or XL.
