NES games feature no multiplayer/manuals, GBA games can't be transferred.

Some details from www.nintendoeverything.com

Twenty free games for early 3DS owners is far from the worst deal in the world. The thing is, it sounds like this “Ambassador’s program” is incredibly rushed.

First off, as was hinted at in the official press release, the NES games that will be offered on September 1 will be “early” versions of the final product. They won’t have digital manuals and there won’t be any cross system multiplayer support. Users will be able to download a free update at an unspecified date to enhance the NES titles.

The GBA offer also suffers from a few issues. None of the games allow for sleep mode usage or SpotPass/StreetPass communication. Oh, and you won’t be able to transfer these games to another system.

Nintendo will begin offering the NES titles on September 1 and the GBA games later in 2011.

It does sound rushed. What with this and the fact they didn't sell very many 3DS last quarter, looks like it's a quick action plan they threw together. Fair play to them for actually managing something though.

I can understand about GBA games not having street/spotpass communication, as I don't think any of the GB VC games can do any linking up, either. Which is why I don't expect us to get any Pokémon VC games (although if they do I hope they release Fire Red/Leaf Green anyway).

Does suck about the lack of sleep mode, though. Don't see how they can't just...add it in.

We can only hope that they DO release them for sale eventually, that way they'll get updates, too.

It's obvious why you can't transfer the games, it's to stop you from buying a system, getting the games, transferring them to a new system, and returning the old one.

Promo items are never transferable.

What if I wanted to buy a new red 3DS? I'd lose my games. That's not fair.

Simple, if your 3DS ever breaks or you ever find reason to want to fix one of it's myriad quirks (wobbly hinge, messed up buttons, off center screen, etc etc) then just send it into Nintendo and you will get to keep them.

That being said, there is still no reason they aren't transferable, and the lack of sleep support is crappy. But.....free games?

Personally, I think it needs to be more rushed. Our 20 games should have been ready at the time of this announcement, or at worst by August 11th.

Instead we have to wait till September for the NES games, the ones we least care about. And probably until November or December for the GBA games.

The press release did mention being able to get the "updated" versions for free later. I hoped that meant they were making 3D Classics of the games as well.

I guess what it really means is that Nintendo has two weeks to make two incomplete emulators and then throw some ROMS at us in response to the latest quarterly report.

Hmm... it sounds like we won't have any choice in which games to get.
