I'm curious to know why?
You can't really compare it to buying a new game because a new game has something to offer.

Because I'll get 20 free games when the price drops. :>

Because I have the money and I will not be negatively impacted by paying for the console at launch.

My dragon egg is dead. Thanks guys. Also, blue cheese is evil and the creator should be flogged.

For me at least, I bought the 3ds at launch because I barely managed to get a Wii when It first released and I didn't want miss out on it.

I bought mine shortly after E3, just out of anticipation for the upcoming releases. i knew they weren't coming for several months, but I bought it anyway. So far, I've been very happy with my 3DS purchase, and the new 20 downloadable games are a nice extra.

I got mine a little over a month ago for OoT3D and DS games, since I never had a DS.

I get excited to buy one at launch and because I have the money. Gaming is my hobby, so planning to buy a console that is announced a year or so away is not hard to do. Saving little by little is the key.

Because without people buying it at launch the system would die right off the bat?

I always wait. I feel they should come out with a few games, like at least 50 before launch? Though I dunno if consoles have already done that with at least 50. But I guess they need guinea pigs, right? Wish if that were the case that you'd get a console for cheap, for testing, or something like that, but be billed later for the rest once testing is done and it is all fine. I dunno.

I really do hope that all this "People buy consoles for games" thing is true. I see that all the time on videos like ScrewAttack Hard News and blogs and such. Because really if it is true, companies shouldn't feel so pressured to pump out a new console right away, it is too soon I'd say for a new console. But if either Sony or Microsoft brings out a new console first and it sells like hot cakes then... ugh, that whole thing about gamers buy consoles for the games offered on them... is total bull. To see a console with no games yet, and yet, it sells fast, because of reputation and their love for the previous. Then that would make the other guys feel pressured to push their new console out before it is ready.

But yeah I guess those who buy consoles at launch must be rather brave to do so. For me it is something I wait to see how well it is received and if there is going to be a new model, which I am glad I waited on PS3 and 360 for the better models, as well as getting the better DS Lite over the original fat DS, because I waited.

We all know there will be some sorta 3DS Lite or something like that. With improved battery and feature and all that. But 3DS screwed up a little without making a 2nd analog stick. It makes me wonder if the next model will have that.
