Is the price drop the new "official" price for the 3DS?

Sorry if this has been said before, but there's way too many topics made to find the answer to this specific question.

So, is Nintendo permenantly reducing the price by $80, or is it just an attention-getter?

Great, that's good to hear. The 3DS community shall be larger, while the early adopters get free stuff.

Nintendo's pretty good to it's customers.
