I don't know if I believe it, though since everything from the time of the launch as listed the components in the unit as costing around $100.

The entire article might just be a mistranslation.

Wait, so this says that they are lowering their profits target for this year because they are lossing on 3DS pricing, right?

Not just that, Wii Sales are down as well, and with the lower price, they make less money on it.

There there are lower software sales, and of course the added R&D cost for developing the WiiU.

wowwwww.. seriously folks?? the system may cost nintendo 100 or so to manufacture but u forget how much was put into actually developing the darn thing, the shipping costs that brings said system to your store, the developers who made those games like AR games that are ALREADY BUILT IN THE 3DS, ads, etc. u try moving products at a price lower than what u paid to manufacture them and magically find funds to ship it and create the built in software...
