I doubt the "buy it now and get the difference refunded" will work

I keep seeing this suggestion and I have to believe that retailers, knowing the price drop is incoming, will introduce a clause to prevent this from happening. No different than Gamestop saying that their "extra $10 for 3 trades does not apply to games valued under $2" in their most recent email. Companies won't allow themselves to be duped like that.

They aren't being duped lol... Only one being duped is Nintendo and they deserve it.

Most retailers will only refund the current price. So if you buy it for $270 today, and try to return it for the difference, you'll only be refunded $170.

You could TRY to recoup the loss by selling on eBay, but you won't even come CLOSE to breaking even--which is one of the reasons why Nintendo was forced to decrease the price so dramatically, so early. See: http://n4g.com/user/blogpost/canary/517980

Yeah, they deserve to have a few hundred thousand more people buy their handheld who otherwise might not have. You show 'em.

I went into in detail in another topic but I really doubt this will be an issue.

What is more valuable to a company? A pissed off customer, and a returned DS that you can no longer sell with nothing to show for it OR $170 and a happy customer?

I could see GameStop refusing to refund the difference b/c they are in the video game business, but if you buy the 3DS at Best Buy or Target or someplace like that, you will have no problem getting the difference. They do it everyday. It's not like they will tell their employees, "you can price match any thing EXCEPT Nintendo products."
