The true root of the 3DS's problems is that

nobody will give it time to fill its library. Yes, Nintendo could've launched better games at the start, but no system starts out with many must have titles. Wii only had Twilight Princess, and Wii Sports, I guess. It took years for it to get many good-great titles we all want to play.

I also want to say hello, lovers and haters. Welcome to Vermineater's 3DS shack, where you can get fine drinks named after video game items and such. :D

How about one?

Honestly, Nintendo didn't even try. Not one game they released up until OoT3D was a killer app. One of the GameCube's best games came out less than a month after the launch; the Wii had Twilight Princess and Wii Sports; Super NES had Super Mario World, SimCity, Pilotwings, and F-Zero; Nintendo 64 had Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64; NES had Super Mario Bros.; Game Boy had Tetris; Game Boy Color had Tetris DX; Game Boy Advance had Super Mario Advance and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity; and Nintendo DS had Daigasso! Band Brothers and Super Mario 64 DS.

None of the 3DS Nintendo launch games stack up to those games.

I'd argue that some of the games out now for the 3DS are better than SM 64 DS.

I'm just saying that there have been worse launches. And Nintendo has promising quality titles coming out this year, while the DS waited over a year for similar titles. SM3DLand and Mario Kart 7 are much better than SM64. Also, Daigasso! wasn't out in America. =/

^So you consider Pilotwings 64, Super Mario Advance and Super Mario 64 DS top tier launch titles?

Mmkay.

Pilotwings was a fun game, don't get me wrong, but it was B quality tops.
Mario Advance was the least popular Mario game rereleased with SNES quality graphics... which is what they had already done in a pack in on SNES (Super Mario All Stars). Super Mario 64 DS was a game designed for a joystick that you had to play with a dpad that had been released two consoles ago.

Did it ever occur to you that Pilotwings Resort was hyped up for reasons that could perhaps be attributed to, say, how great its predecessors was?

So yes, I would call Pilotwings 64 a top tier launch. Because it is.

SMA was still a high quality game, and was only marred because people wanted a better Mario game at launch.

Pilotwings 64: ~88%

Super Mario 64: ~95%

Super Mario World: ~97%

Yeah it was generally well received. But not as well received as actual blockbuster launch titles.

The second thing about SMA is kinda laughable because you just agreed with me that it wasn't a great launch title.

The 3DS will be just fine in about a year's time, when it gets a good variety of games to support it. I was a bit nervous for this console when first trying it, but after playing Super Street Fighter IV and Ocarina of Time, I know it has potential.

Oh no, an 88%? How will Nintendo cope with such a gigantic failure? We'd better take Melee, which scored only 2% higher.
