Dragon Quest (they renamed it Dragon Warrior for the US because some other company had released a non-videogame role playing game product under that name) invented many of the concepts used in that style of video game. However it hasn't aged very well as many featured introduced in later games make for more enjoyable games so it's hard to go back.
