With the Vita not coming out until 2012, do you think this may help 3DS sales?

Did Sony just miss an opportunity again to beat Nintendo at the handheld market?

I just can't figure out how they decided to release the Vita in 2012.
Did they want Nintendo to drop their price; and with that price drop do you see 3DS sales increasing over the Winter because of the multiple games that are looking great as far Nintendo games (Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus, etc.) are concerned?
Waiting for more info on: LoZ: Skyward Sword, 3DS games, Dragon Quest X, and Wii U

The holiday season is big for sales of games and game systems. Without the Vita competing at the same time, that will certainly help 3DS sales.

I think sales will improve with the games coming out in November. Stuff like Mario Land 3D, Cave Story, Kid Icarus, and a bunch of others I can't remember. Star Fox is out soon, that should help. I agree with others that Nintendo probably should have waited till they had some truly awesome launch titles to release it with. Vita not coming out till 2012 MAY help, but I don't think it will be as much as everyone thinks. People who want to play Uncharted on a handheld won't flock to Nintendo because of a delay. That's my opinion anyway.

I just can't figure out how they decided to release the Vita in 2012.

Because their priorities this year is Uncharted 3 and the PS3.
