How do you know when the battery is done charging?

I just got my 3DS and it has been charging for a little over 2 hours. When the battery is done, is the orange light supposed to go out like on the DS Lite? I want a full charge since it's what Nintendo recommends doing before the first use... Thanks.

The orange light goes out. It takes a bit on the first charge.

The battery icon on the HOME menu will turn blue with a charger plug over the icon.

If you charge it in the cradle the light will go out. According to the manual, if you charge directly off the cord there is a chance the charging light may not go out. (At least I think it was the manual I read that in... I'll check)

EDIT: Okay it is if you are playing a game while charging off the cord, the light may not go out.
