Could the 3DS retail games be available to download in the future?

3DS games current cartridges have a limit of 2 GB. Which is being upgraded for future games like Metal Gear Solid 3D to 4 GB.

If you haven't bought a new SD card yet, then there's already a game you can't get without buying a new SD card first.

It's a bad business practice that I'll thank Nintendo to not even consider for full fledged games.

Nintendo fanboys were never one to listen to reason. The TC is saying he would like it as an option. No one is forcing you to buy DD. You're probably the same people who like the no messaging on the 3DS because you claim it would be highly annoying like Xbox live supposedly is.

Agreed ^^^ it should be an option.
And as for the topic quest:
Can it happen? Yes.
Will it happen? No, its Nintendo.

Although since your account isn't linked to anything aside from the 3ds, every game you buy could be lost if your console breaks. So unless they improved the online system, it's probably better to not do it.
Not changing this sig until my sig changes!

The TC sounded like he meant switching to only downloads. I guess I read it wrong. Thing is, online makes games even simpler to reduce, so we could end up with more crapware alongside the 3DS game releases. Look at DSiware for instance.
