Why would Nintendo release a "2D" 3DS - When the original already does 2D?

In what world is 3D even remotely creative for gameplay?

You're kidding, right?

You honestly don't see any advantages to having an actual field of DEPTH in gameplay?

You have no clue why that could be advantageous?

There are people who don't want to use a touchscreen. Did Nintendo stop making touchscreen-based games? No. Did they stop making motion control-based games? No.

Interesting fact - no one in this thread has shown a quote wherein Nintendo has cited 3D as a success in any way since the price drop announcement.

Try again.

Yet Nintendo DOES have a huge range in touchscreen use, ranging from game to game. Some are heavy - and some are nearly nonexistent.

And ultimately, that is what he is saying here, too. They are not going to pigeonhole themselves into a position where they feel they HAVE to do heavy 3D in every title, even if it might work better to leave it out completely. They are being flexible - which is a good thing!

Interesting fact - The price drop just happened very recently. And why, exactly, would they need to?

Try again.

So wait

Nintendo DIDN'T comment on the people who disliked the touchscreen controls

Yet you somehow find the two situations to be in the same boat?

I don't think a 2D 3DS would help anyone. Look at how lazy some of the developers are at pushing the graphical limits of the 3DS already. Remove the 3D, and you give developers an excuse to be even lazier. Then people that bought the 3DS expecting 3D games are going to be pissed to find out developers stopped putting 3D into the games. The people that buy the 2D 3DS expecting something awesome are going to be pissed they got a gimped version of a better system, a system slightly better than the DS, and a system worse than the Vita.

Really, who would this help?

Nintendo was never asked about touchscreen controls in that manner (as far as we can tell).

You still fail to recognize that he was RESPONDING TO A QUESTION that was put forth to him.

My point still stands - Touchscreen controls are used in widely varying degrees. There is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with Nintendo doing the same thing with 3D. And when they do, it doesn't mean anything other than they want to remain as creatively open as possible.

Nintendo was never asked about touchscreen controls in that matter because there does not exist a significant number of people who oppose touchscreen controls.

A game that can only be played with the touchscreen cuts out people who don't want to play it like that. A game that can only be played with 3D cuts out people who can't play it like that.
