Can you believe how well the 3ds is selling right now, its amazing right!?

I was interested in comparing how the new 3ds, nintendo's next generation handhled console was doing sales wise in comparison to its older brother the ds. So went on to google (everyones info friend) and found out that the 3ds is actually out selling the original DS! The 3ds was released on march 27th and has been on sale now for roughly six months. Using game industry data website Vgchartz, it shows that to date the 3ds has sold a whopping 4,108,379! When comparing this to the original ds sales, which was released in november 2004. Within six months Vgchartz data shows that the original ds sold 3,584,203.

Its amazing to think that the 3ds is already outselling the biggest, most successfull handheld console we have had in history, the ds! And these figures only show what has been sold, not shipped. So we can at least estimate the 3ds has shipped maybe upto six or seven million 3ds consoles.

well i just wanted go through the data and share it with everyone out there on the interwebs, its just amazing right?!

Reasonably well-researched topic will fail because:

1. Trolls don't care about facts
2. Links were not provided

If Vgchartz is a questionable source, at least these Japanese sales numbers are real :

August 15th --> 21th :

1. 3DS: 105,639 (196,077)
2. PSP: 40,888 (40,389)
3. PS3: 29,666 (20,239)
4. Wii: 18,256 (19,607)
5. DSi LL: 4,329 (4,213)
6. DSi: 3,585 (3,531)
7. PS2: 1,789 (1,513)
8. X360: 1,427 (1,576)
9. DS Lite: 117 (90)
10. PSP go: 13 (20)

3DS is outselling all other systems combined.

TC: If you're comparing sales of the 3DS and DS in their first 6 months, you need to post links that show those particular sales numbers.

And as far as comparing current 3DS sales to current sales for other systems, the market for those other systems is mostly saturated (i.e. everybody who wants one most likely has one by now), so having higher 3DS sales numbers is to be expected.

(I just really want this topic to succeed since it's the first reasonable topic I've seen in days.)

Nobody said the market was saturated when the PSP was outselling the 3DS. And If even the PS2 still has strong sales then you know the market isn't saturated at all.

ds sales figure for the same time period after launch is found on link below. 3ds sales margin is impressive considering it has outsold the original ds in the same time period, without the holiday season that the ds had and being alot more expensive, even with the price drop. Its actually impressive to see the 3ds sales because they are likely to really surpass the ds benchmark set over Christmas season for total year sales. With the release of mario 3d land, mario kart and what not. interesting stuff!
