Not really a weird way.. it just treats Ambassadors as if they've downloaded the titles before but have deleted them off their system.

That's so awesome! Way to think outside the box, Nintendo. I like it.

Looks like they have gone with a "quick and dirty" solution.

Rather than define these eShop items as being distinct ambassador titles and changing the software to treat them differently they have just reused the re-download functionality and avoided making them visible in the eShop altogether.

Well, they have to tie it to the account, they can't just stick it on the store itself otherwise it would end up showing up for everyone.

It's actually better this way probably. Only ambassador's will be able to see them and they won't get a ton of calls going, "Why can't I purchase such and such title on the 3DS eshop?"

Yeah - that's what I meant by them having to change the eShop software to conditionally show ambassador games to ambassadors only. That takes extra effort so they did it the "quick win" way. I'd have done the same TBH.

Hmmm...

I haven't heard of this Ambassador Certificate before.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/3ds/en_na/3dsambassador.jsp?menu=about&submenu=ctr-gi-amb-what-is-certificate

The Ambassador Certificate is a downloadable video available to Ambassadors.

By tapping the receive button on the Touch Screen when viewing this video, Ambassadors will receive updates regarding the Ambassador Program, such as when new titles are available to download. As soon as details for the 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console titles are available, we will send an update to those who have opted in using the Ambassador Certificate.

I applaud Nintendo for that. Now if only they had put this much thought into the friend list...
