My wifi connection problems are making no sense. Very stressed. Please help?

I have an SSID and WEP password, and I know my DS can connect to the internet using this because I did a connection test and it worked. Yet, I cant connect to Wifi when I try to play pokemon. I then went to Starbucks to use a password free connection and it connected to the internet, yet when I tried to trade a pokemon through wifi, it said nothing was in range... This makes ABSOLUTELY no sense to me. I am so angry, I missed out on a really good opportunity because of this problem. Can somebody please tell me what im doing wrong? This shouldnt be as difficult as it currently is.

I heard that the 3DS doesn't support DS wifi games. :/ I don't know for sure, so sorry.

Nintendo called it the Ambassador Program because "Ambassador" is an anagram of "Moar Badass". -StarlightDrive

Do you have your wireless mode set to "mixed"? I was having "DS" connection issues a few days ago, until I switched the wireless mode through the router's settings.

You need to set up a DS connection as well as the 3DS one on the 3DS. Don't use the in game settings to do it, you have to do it in the system settings for the 3DS.

If you can't figure it out PM me.

I did use the in game settings to set a ds games internet connection in a 3ds and i had it work. (did it with Dragon Quest 9 before i noticed that setting in the 3ds's menu's)
But yes there are 2 settings in the 3ds to set and both and be done in the 3ds's system settings. Under system settings you need to pick internet settings then set up those connection with "Connection Settings" and "Nintendo DS Connections"
Nintendo DS Connections is what needs to be set up to use the internect connection for any ds game. Skipping it means you won't be able to connect with a ds game.

I couldn't get pokemon Black's ingame settings to work for me, I had to use the system settings.

yeah, pokemon black and white will say to use the system settings for them.
other ds games will still let your set them in game though. (dragon quest 9)
it wouldn't supprise me if the settings that those 2 pokemon games use are the 3ds's setting rather then the ds setting for a connection
