Help with The Legend of Zelda NES

Okay so I wanted to save, so I did what the manual told me to do. I switched to Player 2 controls and held up and A. It took me to the save screen. I saw some sort of caution message. So I went to select save, but I couldn't. Thinking it froze, I went to the VC menu and reset the game. (I hadn't saved yet, still can't get it it to work). Now at the "Press Start" menu I press Start, but nothing happens. >.> Help?

You have to press Select (or Y) to cycle through menu options. Up or Down won't work.

I noticed that you had to do that with NES games, so I did do that. But I still couldn't move the cursor to select anything.

You forgot to switch back to controller one.

1. Hold L + R and press Y to switch to Player 2
2. Press Up + A
3. Repeat Step 1 and switch back to Player 1

No problem. I always do that myself. Then I'm like, "D'oh".

If I remember right you don't need a second controller to access the save screens in Zelda 1 and 2 on the Wii VC though.

No, because the Wii VC actually uses the updated versions of the Zelda 1 and 2 that were on the Zelda's Collector edition GC disc. There were a few minor changes made to those versions of the games, such as saving being Up+Select on Controller 1, grammar and spelling fixes, and the word PAUSE showing up on the screen when you pause in Zelda 1. The 3DS VC uses the original versions instead of the updated ones. Not sure why. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed them when they release the final versions.
