What if this 4th installement is like a kind of reboot.
After the events of Chrono Cross, Chrono and Marle return from saving other dimensions. The timeline they arrived isn't the correct one, so they go back in time to prevent the fall of Guardia. During the time travel an accident happened sending them to 800 A.D where Lavos is indeed destroyed in this timeline. They are stuck on another timeline were Lavos was destroyed before they returned to Guardia and Traveled to 2300 A.D for the first time. Now they must re-design the events and recruit every character again. Such as a New Human Glenn, an overpowered Magus, Ayla learned to use Magic somehow. And Lucca, well...
