Remember what the ps2 did to the SEGA Dreamcast?

I hate to be the one to say it but the 3ds May end up like the dreamcast.

The vita looks like a worthy opponent to the 3ds.
And with the price it is marketed at who knows.

I agree. A lot more people would appreciate the Vita over the 3DS.

Nah. The 3DS is actually getting third party support (well from Japan anyway).

Well the dreamcast only failed (even though it was the superior system) because it came off of a series of failures of the company. Stores refused to carry it. Besides the superior system part, it seems to fit the situation the Vita is in more than the 3DS tbh.

Also I think the Vita is launching too late. Even if Nintendo screwed up the 3DS launch in every possible way, Nintendo will more or less have their crap together by the time the Vita launches: price point ($80 cheaper), games (OoT is out, plus Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D Land are on their way), and market share (the 3DS will go uncontested for ~nine months in Japan and possibly close to a year in North America and Europe).

I think the Vita is going to be a fantastic piece of hardware, and I'll probably like it more personally than the 3DS (I liked my PSP over my DS after-all, mainly because of the hardware), but I don't think the Vita is going to kill off the 3DS. I mean the PS3 is still playing catch-up to the 360 because of Microsoft's one year headstart. I think we'll see a repeat here as well.

I think the major difference is that the Vita will get decent Western support since it's closer to the HD platforms (PS3, 360, and PC), unlike the 3DS, meaning it's ideal for multi-platform development. I don't see many Western developers bothering with the 3DS to be honest.

In Japan both systems will get high levels of support. I think many PS3 and 360 games (such as Street Fighter x Tekken) will make it to the Vita because of the hardware similarities (just like I stated above). Plus the PSP was extremely successful in Japan and it's been the most popular system there for a good two or three years, so I think the anticipation is high for the PSP's replacement.
