why is the camera quality so bad

it's nearly on par with gameboy camera (aside from the colour)

I dunno... They went cheap because they are focusing on games. But I wouldn't mind paying alil extra for just like....a non crap camera lol.

I mean.. I don't really care at all that we are going to get a video recording update.. because it will look like crap anyways.

I think they just assumed that everyone already has 6 other devices with a camera on their person at any given time, so the camera on a game system would only be used in-game.

Not that I'm happy with that decision. Even a 1.3mp camera is adequate for casual photos to upload to Facebook/Myspace/etc, and probably not much more expensive than the 0.3mp cameras they used instead. I imported the PSP 1.3mp camera when it first came out, and I was amazed at how good the image & video quality were.

Maybe the video will turn out real nice, though.

How? It's a hardware problem. Meaning it is guaranteed to be crap quality.
#8SyntaxBananaZPosted 9/26/2011 2:18:15 AM
One of the problems with the 3DS is that it doesn't display millions of colors per pixel. Coupled with the fact that the 3DS camera NEEDS proper lighting for quality pics, it's a horrible excuse for a media function of a digital device.

Remember, this is Nintendo we're talking about. They put gaming first and media applications second. Unlike the PSP, which is the opposite: media device that does gaming.

The 2nd PSP camera (PSP-450x) was also a 0.3MP camera.

To avoid further confusion: Any 3DS related post made by me, assume it is JPN Region, and yes I am Japanese. Now quit PM'ing me about it.

quality wont matter if you played a game like SF 64 3D multiplayer, you wont care for quality as long as you see the other players faces expressions decently.

you guys ask for too much from nintendo, they ONLY MAKE GAMES. they arent sony or microsoft who go and make TV's computers, laptops, camera's etc.

the camera is ok, if you upload it on facebook its fine, nothing crazy, but either way, its a dedicated gaming console not a dedicated camera. i wouldnt wanna pay so much more just to see them dish out 3.0 Megapixel camera's they need 3, 2 for the 3d effect and one inside. think of the cost.
