The save data tool will be released early-ish next year. (I forget the timeframe but they mentioned it in one of the ND's)

Wow, that's horrid. o.o they're the same game, why would they use different saves?

If someone is stupid enough to buy it there will always be someone smart enough to sell it.

Uh, no...obviously because the physical cart don't save on a different space (like a memory card, or internal hard drive) like CD based game do. It's like that since...forever for every (well almost every) cart-based game. So obviously you can't load the same save from the digital version of a game and the cart version. Like I said, the tool was a VERY GOOD surprise. For a cart-based system, that's a first for me.

Why can't physical carts save elsewhere? I thought that's what they did, I thought that was what the SD card was for in the first place.

uh, no. SD card is only for extra data, and "complete" digital game (including their save file attached to the actual game, so you delete the game, you delete your saves too.). The system is still like every others Nintendo system before it that is not CD-based. Everything is saved on the actual game. I thought it was obvious as you can put your cart into someone else 3DS and your save will still be there (or even just go to data management in your options, and you won't see any of your save for your physical game)
