Speaker volume, and, weight, size, stylus, price, color selection, shininess (preference, but 3DS in fact does it better), accessory selection, and pixel density.

I forgot pixel density (though the image doesn't look any less crisp) and accessories (though those are coming with time), but everything else is entirely subjective. The XL is weighty (in a good way) without being uncomfortable, it's larger size is a plus in my book (more comfortable but just about as pocketable as the first 3DS), a telescopic stylus is not better for gameplay as it tends to recede when in use, and a matte finish is preferable to many people.

I'm gonna be getting a 3DS, but that's because it comes in purple and I love it. Also, I like how shiny it looks. I've played both on demos before and definitely preferred the original.

Then again, I never did upgrade my original DS to a Lite, DSi, or XL. Maybe I'm just strange that way.

Looks like this topic answers that one. I knew it looked unintentionally familiar >_>

Sorry to highjack but I gotta ask this. I just got a 3DS XL today. I noticed that the screens hinges are a bit wobbly and loose. It clicks into place for all it's positions. Also, the d pad is moves around and looks a bit loose. The buttons click and feels great just that the d-pad shell? moves. Are these problems normal? Thanks.

The hinges are supposed to be that way as far as I can tell. Sure beats my launch 3DS's horribly wobbly and barely locking screen, paint chipped dpad and stiff circle pad.

You don't understand subjectivity. Something isn't subjectively lighter. For clarity, I should have said "smaller" instead of "size".

And you make me wonder if you've ever used the 3DS stylus. The part you hold doesn't allow any telescoping during use even if you apply amazingly excessive pressure. Telescopic or not, any of the styii Nintendo has used previously are superior to the baffling cheaply molded one that comes with the 3DS XL.

I couldn't agree more. The XL is a huge improvement over the original.

I borrowed a friend's DSiXL for a while... it was tough to go back to the DS Lite but I did it.

The glossy finish of the original 3DS is the main reason why I upgraded, it's a horrible dust and fingerprint magnet.
