What kind of handheld system do you think Nintendo will release after the 3DS?

How can Nintendo move forward from the DS and 3DS systems?

It will be whatever is popular during that time. The Wii released when motion controls were popular, the DS released when touch screens were popular, the Wii U released when tablets were popular and the 3DS released when 3D was popular.

Virtual reality or holograms.

Whatever it is, it'll probably use this:

3D wasn't that popular for it though. Sad that Nintendo will have to shoehorn it in the next handheld to have BC with the 3DS. The next handheld could have a multi-touch screen, Skype, Nintendo TVii app, 4 shoulder buttons, and whatever gimmick (like 3D) that is too overpriced for practical use (like 3D) and distill it down to an optional function that's still not really worth jacking up the price for.

Whatever it is, Nintendo should wait at least 3 years. Give the DS and DSi systems time to fade from the market and the 3DS to flourish. That way we won't have 5-7 handhelds oversaturating the market next gen. Variety is great, but there is such a thing as too much.

I'm sorry, where were motion controls popular in 2006?

the DS released when touch screens were popular

And again...where were touch screens popular in 2004? Not saying there were no touchscreen devices back then but they were relatively few and far between. touch screen interfaces didn't blow up to the levels they are today until after, really when the iPod Touch launched in 2007 is when touch screens had to be shoehorned into everything.

Hopefully they go back to the Game Boy. As much as dual screens and touch is cool, I miss the simplicity of the ol' Boy.

If HeroeMGT is reliable enough (He predicted the 3DSXL and KH3D SpoilersAxel getting a keyblade), then it'll be the 4DS.
