but it makes it harder for you to enjoy a video game that you cannot even understand a single sentence from. So even if the 3DS was region free it just wouldn't make a difference to like 95% of the western 3DS user base.

Yeah I know.

Great example would be something like NSMB2.

So? It took more effort to region lock than leave it free and pisses off 5% of their user base. Generally when a company is in a position where going the 'no effort' route will keep their entire user base happy, they go with that.
Only my opinion is valid.

That argument only applies to RPGs or other games where narrative is a primary element.

Most importers don't go for games like that. Take a look at the Vita, for example. Most people importing on the Vita are going for games like Gundam Seed Battle Destiny (action combat) and Project Diva F (rhythym).

if a 3ds game was released outside of asia it will have english text 99% of the time. or maybe even your native language if youre lucky and its not english.

It's not the language barrier as much with the 3DS. There's also the monetary barrier to consider.

TC, you don't live in Europe, do you? Europe gets shafted on a lot of stuff. They could just get an American copy of all the games not localized there, but the region lock stops that. And they can enjoy the gameplay AND understand the story because they can probably understand English.

Thanks for choosing for me. Allow me to ban you from watching foreign films. And eating foreign food. Enjoy eating American cuisine and Twilight.

The number of importers is just real small anyways. Which is why Nintendo is region locking, it increases the money any developer makes, so that makes developers want to make games for their system. More profit.
