The problem about this doomsday prophecy is that it's not going to end on the 21st of December. If anything does happen, it's not going to be a quick death for us all. It's the date when ****'s supposed to start happening. It's supposed to be a long, drawn-out process that is supposed to last a few years before the world actually ends.

Actually, although the "prophecy" itself says nothing about the world ending (think of this as the Mayan version of Y2K), technically the 20th would be the day everything ends. Since the 21st is the beginning of a new cycle in the Mayan calendar (either 13.0.0.0.0 or 1.0.0.0.0.0, depending upon whom you ask), the 20th is the last day of the current cycle (12.19.19.17.19), meaning that would be the last day of existance.

Of course, this is all a moot point. The Mayans did have a date for the end of the world: 13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.19.19.17.19 or 1.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0), but that is several powers of 10 longer than the age of the universe. In other words, we've still got time.

Rather than giving such a complex reasoning, you could've simply stated that the Mayans ran out of space after writing 12/21/2012 to their calendar. This doesn't mean that the world ends, especially since the Mayans don't think so as well.

It's been disproven, because a Mayan Calendar that goes past 2012 was discovered.

And the Mayans themselves have said that the world will not end in 2012.
