Thanks then what is the difference between street pass and spot pass? It gives you the option to send either way thats what is confusing me.

StreetPass: Content obtained from other 3DS's through regular wireless communication. Color-coded green.

SpotPass: Content obtained from friends and Nintendo through WiFi hotspots (or Nintendo Zones). Color-coded blue.

Yeah, I never thought of that. If you choose StreetPass for a letter, does it get sent to anyone that you StreetPass regardless of whether they are on your Friends List or not?

I've never tried to StreetPass a letter and I've never had one StreetPassed to me, so I am not sure how the letters are traded in that case.

streetpassing swap note lets you send a note you saved to your friends in your friends list when you streetpass with them
